Metal free mouth
Metals in the mouth: More than just an allergy risk
Allergies and intolerances have been on the rise for a long time. This is proven by worldwide studies and we also find this in our practice. More and more frequently, the question arises as to the role played by metals found in the mouth. Even though direct intolerances of common dental metals such as gold, platinum or titanium are rather rare – they do exist and they make themselves felt through pain, metallic taste, bad breath or inflammation.
Metals in the mouth and permanent environmental influences such as electromagnetic radiation and heavy metals in the air or in food put a strain on the organism.
For example, effects of metals are shown in clinical studies in:
- Autoimmune diseases
- Arteriosclerosis
- Dementia
- chronic fatigue syndrome (fatigue)
- Cardiovascular diseases
There are different ways in which our body is burdened by metals and of course every person, every immune system, reacts differently. In addition to the great danger posed by toxic heavy metals such as the mercury in amalgam fillings, metals have other risky properties.
- Metals and the immune system: More and more people react with intolerances and allergies to metals. The immune system perceives individual metal molecules as foreign bodies and reacts with an immunological response. Here, even the smallest amounts of the corresponding metal are enough to trigger an allergy.
- Metals and radiation: In the moist mouth, metals become electrical conductors. If several metals are present, a measurable current flows. In addition, metals act as antennas and as amplifiers of electromagnetic fields. Especially in times of cell phones and W-LAN, the biological effects on the body are uncontrollable and hard to estimate.

Accordingly, the health risks are well known and yet amalgam continues to be used in dental practices. However, the filler has been more than controversial* ever since its introduction due to its composition.
Especially where different metals (such as gold, silver and amalgam) meet in the mouth, elevated mercury levels are detectable. The metals react with each other in the form of electrochemical corrosion, releasing mercury particles from the amalgam. Other heavy metals – such as copper or tin – also enter the organism through abrasion via the bloodstream.
Amalgam is an alloy of the heavy metal mercury with other metals, such as silver, copper, indium, tin and zinc. The processing of pure mercury and the high mercury content (about 50%) triggered a discussion about possible health hazards very early on. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that is ingested primarily in the form of mercury vapor. Our body stores mercury mainly in the liver, kidneys, nerves and brain.
As you now know, amalgam contains mercury, a highly toxic neurotoxin. At our biological dental practice in Tittling, we have been helping patients from Passau and the entire region for many years by consistently ridding their mouths of metals of all kinds.
Of course, this also includes the gentle and safe removal of amalgam fillings. Safety starts with drilling and insulating the teeth and includes several protective measures:
- Rubber dam: To provide better protection from the mercury vapors when inhaled, we place a rubber dam. This tension rubber on a metal frame isolates the tooth from the rest of the oral cavity and the upper airways. This provides protection against vapors and drilling dust. Amalgam residues no longer enter the oral cavity and cannot be swallowed.
- Special extraction: Special suction reduces exposure to mercury vapors by over 90%. Amalgam residues and vapors are extracted directly at the tooth.
- Oxygen: In addition, we can provide you with supplemental oxygen during drilling – with the help of oxygen goggles and an oxygen device.
- Rinsing with sodium thiosulfate: This binds and neutralizes the amalgam still remaining in the tooth tissue, which cannot be reached by drilling out.
- Special drills: Only specially designed drills with special toothing are used, which ensure minimal heating of the filling and thus the lowest possible release of mercury vapors.
- Low speed: This reduces the generation of mercury vapor.
- Levering: Drilling is done as little as possible and as much as necessary. Removal of the amalgam filling by levering has priority. Leveraging has the advantage of preventing toxic mercury vapors from being generated and inhaled in the first place.
When amalgam and other heavy metals act in the body for years, the organism – and here especially the immune system – is permanently challenged. Blood analyses help us to find out the biological deficits and to balance them. In consultation with the attending physicians and alternative practitioners of our patients, we recommend the appropriate nutritional supplements such as:
- Vitamins (C, D3, K2)
- Minerals and trace elements (zinc, magnesium)
- Enzymes (Bromelain)
- Omega 3 fish oil
- Chlorella algae
Thus, we not only detoxify your body (DETOX) but also prepare you and your immune system for implantations and other surgical procedures*.

Rightly you will now ask yourself the question:
“What alternative is there for allergy sufferers and people who suffer from intolerances when metals are not an option?”
Whenever possible, we provide our patients with dentures made of pure white high-performance ceramics. In our in-house dental laboratory we manufacture smaller and larger fillings (inlays), partial crowns and crowns to restore your teeth as naturally as possible. We fix the denture with special cements – for maximum compatibility.
