Periodontal disease – when the gums bleed, it becomes dangerous!
Did you know that gingivitis can be dangerous for your health?
Gum inflammation or periodontitis begins in the early stages with the sudden appearance of bleeding gums when brushing the teeth. In addition, the predominantly pink gums are more or less reddened or swollen and recede. Because gingivitis is rarely painful, it is often taken seriously too late.
What happens if you do nothing about it?
In the further course, periodontal disease often develops. In addition to sensitive tooth necks associated with pain, periodontal disease is usually accompanied by unpleasant bad breath. In addition, gum pockets occur, in which bacteria settle and promote root caries. As periodontal disease progresses, the gums continue to recede and the gaps between the teeth increase. In the final stage, loose teeth or, in the worst case, tooth loss occur.
The insidious danger for the whole body
Gum inflammation and periodontal disease can attack the periodontium and destroy parts of the jawbone. Bacteria nest in the holes created in the process. Bacteria and especially their degradation products, the so-called cadaveric toxins, can enter the bloodstream through the blood vessels and overwhelm the immune system. In addition, studies have shown that the risk of heart attack or stroke increases by 10 to 20 times.
What can you do against gingivitis?
Periodontal disease is not hereditary and good care is sometimes not enough. Often, a reduced vitamin and mineral balance promotes the development of periodontal disease. Therefore, these depots in the body should be replenished. Especially vitamin C, D and zinc are very important for building a healthy jawbone and gum health. Especially during long illness or as a result of a diet, the vitamin and mineral stores are empty. Therefore, it is important to replenish vitamins and minerals. In addition, regular visits to the dentist are essential to ensure that teeth and gums are professionally cleaned.
Bottom line: don’t take it lightly if your gums bleed and announce gingivitis to avoid periodontal disease or even tooth loss. The consequences of this can be very far-reaching and increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Health is a high good. Act now!
