Inflammation is our body’s response to a particular stimulus. This can be a splinter in the finger, a pathogen or bacteria. In periodontitis – also known as periodontosis by patients – it is harmful plaque that extends over the teeth and gums to the periodontium (periodontium). The metabolic products of the bacteria in this plaque lead to inflammation, which destroys the tissue and bone. The consequence: tooth loss.
Untreated periodontitis can cause the following diseases:
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Diabetes
- Rheumatism and joint pain
- and much more!

During treatment, we reduce the bacteria count and can help your oral health recover. In doing so, we pursue three goals:
- Reduce inflammation!
- Remove coatings!
- Tissue preserved!
This is the procedure of periodontal treatment in our practice of biological dentistry:
- Pretreatment and cleaning
With a

we reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth. In the process, our specially trained staff remove harmful plaque from the gum pockets, tooth surfaces and tongue.
For this purpose, we use a so-called air-flow in our practice. With this device, we spray a special powder-water mixture onto your teeth and thus remove plaque particularly thoroughly. To get an accurate picture of the severity of the inflammation, we then measure the depth of the gum pockets and – if necessary – look at the condition of the jawbone on an X-ray. - Remove inflamed tissue
In some places, plaque may have extended below the gums. In order for your mouth to recover from periodontal disease, we should remove this inflamed tissue.

Oil pulling in particular has proven its worth. To do this, put a tablespoon of cold-pressed sunflower oil in your mouth in the morning and pull it vigorously through your teeth. After about 10 to 15 minutes, you can spit out the oil again and rinse your mouth with water. For a course of treatment to support periodontal therapy, repeat the procedure daily*.
* The described topic or the mentioned procedure are subject of numerous studies, which support our view. However, we would like to point out that scientific proof of efficacy and official recognition are currently still pending.
